NetPort Science Park is now expanding with 14,000 square meters. The expansion will generate local and regional growth, and the construction start is expected to the summer of 2015.
NetPort Science Park and Karlshamnsfastigheter AB held a press conference on Friday 5 September, presenting the plans for the expansion. Participating was also the architect for the buildings; Anders Törnqvist, by Anders Törnqvist Arktitektkontor AB in Karlshamn.
– Karlshamnfastigheter will build the property, with consideration to NetPort Science Park’s business and development. We are a player that contributes to the development and growth in the municipality of Karlshamn. And that is why it feels really good that we can go ahead with the next stage, says Marie Håkansson Wahlstrom, CEO of Karlshamnsfastigheter AB.
The expansion is 14,000 square meters, which is divided into two buildings. The buildings will have unique office environments that will encourage a wider collaboration and innovative partnerships.
Generating jobs and increasing in-migration
The goal with this expansion is to increase local and regional growth and simultaneously put Karlshamn on the map. It will generate new jobs and increase in-migration to the municipality as well as the region. In addition, the expectation is to attract entrepreneurs and researchers outside of Sweden to settle and run their businesses here.
– “Karlshamn, a place of life and spirit” is the common vision of Karlshamn, and it affect four focus areas; citizens, innovation, technology and culture. This expansion is responding very well to this vision, Marie Håkansson Wahlstrom continues.
Unique offices for innovative collaborations
The new buildings will have a unique design, where the energy and environmental aspects are significant. Altogether, the expansion is 14,000 square meters, which is divided into two buildings with four floors each. In one of the buildings rises a tower of six floors of which the top two floors are bookable for both the public and business. The buildings will have dynamic office environments that will encourage a wider collaboration and innovative partnerships. A research environment related to NetPort Science Park and Blekinge Institute of Technology is included in the concept. In addition, the buildings enable the possibility to host cinema, auditorium and wellness facilities etc.
– NetPort Science Park has had a great history of development in terms of creating good conditions for students, researchers and companies within the geographical area of the East Pier. The visible results of NetPorts work is that the construction expansion is synchronized with the business expansion. NetPorts mission is to create conditions for companies in establishing their business within the premises, students and researchers to develop and grow, and for the municipality to attract more inhabitants, summarizes Samuel Henningsson, CEO of NetPort Science Park.
Great interest already
The procurement of construction project manager for detail projection will be made immediately. The first sod of the construction will be taken the summer of 2015, and the expectations is to welcome the new tenants at the beginning of the 2017.
– The interest of the new premises is at this early stage great, and there are already actual inquiries on over 10% of capacity in phase 5a, confirms Samuel Henningsson. Eight of the companies that today are located in NetPort Science Park was developed within the Blekinge Business Incubator, and the positive trend continues. Furthermore, existing premises in NetPort Science Park are filled to 100% and more tenants are queuing to get in.
